(Smithsburg, MD) -- Red Heifer Winery, a new Washington County vineyard and winery, opened officially on Tuesday November 27th. The Washington County Board of County Commissioners, along with business and community leaders attended the grand opening-ribbon cutting luncheon event.
Located between Smithsburg and Cascade on Raven Rock Road, Red Heifer Winery is situated on 100-acres of family-owned farmland and has an established 3-acre vineyard. The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau sponsored the ceremonies and luncheon. Attendees included officials from the University of Maryland, the Maryland Wineries Association, Knob Hall Winery, Senator Christopher Shank's office, the Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce, along with the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission and its Agricultural Marketing Department.
According to the owners, Kevin and Yvonne Ford, "Our winery offers sweet and dry wines, and these include: Catawba, Blueberry, Red Heifer White (Vidal Blanc with 3% residual sugar), Vidal Blanc dry, and we are almost ready to bottle our special French Oak-aged Cabernet Franc. The wines are terrific, and already are being well received by customers at tastings and other events."
The Fords also say that gift cards and merchandise are available for sale, in time for the holidays.
